Seminar 2012

Towneley Hall

This year's seminar will be at Burnley from 19 to 21 October. On Friday 19 October there will be a specially organised visit to the Rachel Kay Shuttleworth textile collection at Gawthorpe Hall. On Saturday and Sunday the seminar will be held at Towneley Hall. Towneley Hall is a historic country house, owned by the local authority, which dates back to the fourteenth century. It houses a museum and art gallery as well as a modern lecture theatre, which is where our seminar will be held.

Burnley is located in the Lancashire Pennines (walking opportunities and interesting villages), and due to its climate and location became the cotton weaving capital of the world, such that by 1886 more cotton cloth was produced there than in any other town in the world and it was also producing more looms than any other place in the country. The first textile factories date from 1736, when there was a cloth mill, dyehouse and fulling mill in Calder Vale.

Your committee is working hard to continue BQSG’s tradition of interesting and friendly seminars. Make a note of the dates in your diary and watch the website and Culcita for further information!
